Importance of Prayer – 6 things you should know!
Praying is restoring the self love in yourself! – regardless of whether you are praying in the temple or a mosque or a church or a monastery – “May I restore the self love in me!” When we pray, it is really important to be able to “drop-in” to the state of prayerfulness – where you bow down, close your eyes and surrender to the Divine in your heart!
For some people who regularly pray, it is kind of easy to just ‘drop-in’ to a state of prayerfulness. Some have a lot of thoughts racing in, some have very fast heart beats, some are always restless and hence becomes difficult to drop-in! But it is utmost important to practice to drop-in because even for 2 minutes if you bring your hands together, close your eyes and drop-in for 5 seconds can be monumental for your health, growth and development. By doing that for just 5 seconds in your space, what you are doing is – restoring your self love!
However, we see around a lot of people who can’t love or accept themselves. They are blocked emotionally, they are triggered all the time, they are depressed overall, their heart is closed off. Due to their trauma, loss of loved ones, work and financial pressures, past relationships, the flow of love is trapped and it is really hard for them even to pray because there is so much of judgement, really heavy on the chest – the guilt, the regret – it has become really overwhelming and many have lost their stability. There is emotional and physiological imbalance everywhere!
A mindful prayer can get you back that balance again! It is very simple, but we are so busy in struggling with the imbalance that we forget what is it like to be in the Equilibrium.
1. Praying helps you find the Equilibrium!
At times we are positively charged. On the top of the world, excited! And at other times we are completely down, lost, sad. It is like a pendulum of positive and the negative! This pendulum of emotions can be very very exhaustive for all the human beings! [Eg. You are feeling on the top of the world!! You got your dream job! Positive, exciting!! – or – You are completely down!! – You lost your job, everything is taken from you, you are lost, failed!! All humans experience all such swinging of emotions all the time.
How do we balance it? In Yogic Sciences, when you bring your hands together in the Namaste posture, you are in some way physiologically and neurologically getting your ego and your soul together.
Your ego and soul is coming together at the Zero Point! The zero position, the neutrality position. We move back and forth repeatedly from positive to negative, and from ego to soul until we reach this equilibrium. In any sort of a meditative practice, it is really about getting to this Zero Point, so that you set yourself into some sort of an equilibrium between your Ego and your Soul. And that is equalized in the Prayer!
Your neurological backbone – your spine – is your integrity. From the top of the head ( the soft spot of the baby’s head) till all the way down the perineum. That is what we call neutral channel. We move back and forth repeatedly until we find this neutral channel – the center point – the zero point.
This neutral channel connects you to the higher conscious – Love!
2. Praying helps you translating into Intuition and Discernment.
When you bring your hand together to pray, you drop-in and have that sort of a balance between your ego and your soul, it is translated into intuition and discernment. Intuition is your soul leading you. Discernment is your ego guiding you to keep you safe; but also to keep you available to possibilities.
Intuition is infinite, discernment is finite, it is helping you to have a control of your life, have the boundaries and barriers that you need to better consolidate your physical life.
The more you practice to drop-in the more intuition and discernment you have!
3. Praying helps you equalize ‘inner authority’ and ‘outer authority’.
When we see people with lot of ego issues, their inner and outer authority will always be imbalanced. They don’t have ‘inner authority’. They may have an ‘outer authority.’
In the dark ages, there were a lot of men, who were in authority positions — they were dictators, selfish, greedy, inconsiderate. That’s because their outer authority was trying to control. Inner authority had no control. There was no equilibrium between the physical, mental, emotional groundedness as well as the outer ego’s groundedness.
All human beings have this imbalance of inner and out authority. As you swing back and forth with this imbalance and when you pray with prayfulness, eventually will find the equilibrium. They would eventually swing back to the zero point – neutral channel – the backbone.
4. Praying helps you mediate.
We are living in a polarity. We are dealing with ascending and descending energies at the same time and we are meant to mediate all of it.
When it gets tough, it comes to learning how to mediate, how to get intuitive, and discerning and knowing – how to use your ego to protect yourself and also knowing how to use your soul to guide you. That’s a greater human accomplishment.
The ability to mediate gives you the power to mend past relationships, let go of the resent, let go of the blame game and you are able to transform and transmute really heavy emotions. If you allow the sadness, ego, authority to seep into deep, they can destroy you and never mediate.
That is why it’s really important to articulate and express your heart!
With this awakening of the heart, you come into your own excellence. You know, through your backbone, integrity, intuition and discernment – how to navigate through negativity and fear. You know how to navigate through positivity and love. That is what mediation is all about.
5. Praying helps you in ‘awakening of our heart’.
If you have been praying a lot for whatever your need — healthcare, finance, relationship or anything else – the message comes to you through the awakening of your heart. That is why the prayer is held at the heart. We are praying that – May my heart awaken!
People who don’t experience the awakening of the heart, usually don’t find their purpose or never come into the state of finding their equilibrium, integrity – you can look at yourself, you can love yourself and accept yourself.
That is why we need to pray for the liberation of our heart and the feelings. There is a need to pray for the release of heavy emotions, regrets and restore love in our backbone so that we can connect, be creative and mediate our past and future decisions and actions; which is helping you to find equilibrium.
6. Praying helps you to find your true purpose.
When you come back to this neurological backbone, you are naturally being into intuitive nature as well as discerning nature, and using it to discover your true purpose of being!
The prayer is – you as a human being saying –
“Help me holy spirits, spirit guides, higher self, ancestors, help me mediate my life, help me mediate my ego, help me mediate my soul, help me mediate my self importance so that I am not over indulging in ways that are destructive and I am not under-developing ways that are creative and fulfilling for me, so that I am always in intuition , I am always in discernment and I am truthful to my heart.”
It is important to find this integrity. Your integrity is your self knowledge.
It is important to be truthful to your heart. That’s the whole point of self knowledge and self discovery.

Like!! I blog quite often and I genuinely thank you for your information. The article has truly peaked my interest.
Narayana. Truth. You speak the truths of our existence 🙏
I just want to thank you Pradnya, you have been such a big help to me on this path for the last 2 years. I have been on this path for 5 years since being kundalini awakened by my twin by shaktipat. I have not been in contact with my twin in over a year and I can say that I am fine with that. Now my life is amazing after the first three years of turmoil, trauma, sadness, fear and confusion. I may never speak to my twin again but that is all right, God has given me an amazing transformation and new life through this journey! May God richly bless you, I look forward to meeting you in the next world. इन्दिरा
Thank you for your warm feedback Indira. Would love to hear more about your awakening and your journey though!! 🙂
Interesting article. Never used to pray before May 2018. I do now on a regular basis. Not in a scheduled fashion, just when I feel the need for a recalibration.
Sorry if I sound like a car mechanic, just the best way I can describe it.
I appreciate your response Churnjit.
